Sponsorship
Sinclair Properties donate to, sponsor and support a number of charitable causes throughout the year. Although we are a small company, we feel it is important to give something back, particularly to local charities/events and to our student clients.
Below is a summary of some of the support we have given to good causes over the last couple of years:
December 2011
Sinclair Properties made a donation to a local student who is going to Mexico during her gap year to volunteer with the Red Cross.
"Thank you so much for sponsoring me - your donation has helped me to fund my ten week trip, volunteering both in A&E and with paramedics on duty. People who cannot afford healthcare in Mexico rely on these free emergency services so it really is a worthwhile cause." Rachel Wood

Sinclair Properties sponsored a local girl Georgia Marsden who plays football as part of the York U17 Girls Centre of Excellence, based at York College. The Centre of Excellence program is run by the FA as a registered charity for category 'A' players. Georgia has been part of the centre for the past three years and has twice been selected to go to regional England trials, as well as being on the U15 watch list last season. There are only 30 such centres around the country that offer this level of elite football and the England squad will only take players from these centres.

Sinclair Properties made a donation to St. Leonard's Hospice, who provide palliative care to patients whose illnesses no longer responds to curative treatment. Sinclair Properties sponsored a York St. John student who completed a skydive to raise money for the university's SPARK scholarship fund. The aim of the SPARK (Securing Potential and Releasing Knowledge) initiative is to ensure any student facing financial difficulties can be supported through finishing their studies.

Sinclair Properties made a donation to a local student who completed a skydive to raise money for the Laura Crane Trust. This charity supports research into cancer in young people, and until 1996 (when the trust was founded) there were no organisations investigating cancer in people aged 13 - 24. Since then, research has progressed into the types of cancer affecting young people and the possible treatments available to them.

Sinclair Properties donated to the Sophie Atay Appeal ~ Sophie Atay was born fit and healthy on 15 November 2007 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. One day whilst drying Sophie after her usual bath her mother felt a lump on the left side of her tummy. After numerous and frustrating hospital visits over a 10 day period Sophie was diagnosed with neuroblastoma stage 4 (high risk) on Monday 16 February 2009. Sophie's family are now looking to raise funds to take her to the Memorial Slone Kettering Hospital in New York for treatment.

Val McTurk who is a landlord and a Director of Sinclair Properties power walked 'the original marathon' from Marathon to Athen in Greece to raise money for cancer Research and the National Association for Colitis & Crohn's Disease. Val and friends completed the 26.2 mile marathon walk in 6 hours 36 minutes and raised a lot money for charity.
Sinclair Properties were pleased to sponsor Val and her chosen charities.

Sinclair Properties made a sizable donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for victims of the unprecedented floods in Pakistan.
Over 1,600 people are reported to have died and 20 million people are believed to have been affected by the floods. In the aftermath there is now a serious risk to survivors from potentially deadly diseases, including cholera, which can spread as a result of contaminated surface and drinking water.
The money raised will help fund the life saving work in Pakistan of the DEC's Members which are the lead UK aid agencies and their partners.

Sinclair Properties made a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for victims of the devastatiing Haiti Earthquake.
A devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on January 12th 2010. It was the worst earthquake to hit the country in 200 years. Up to three million people live in the area worst hit by the quake, which centred 10 miles south-west of the densely populated capital Port-Au-Prince. The latest estimates are 230,000 people killed, 300,000 injured and 1.2 million left needing emergency shelter. Survivors lost family, homes, livelihoods and essential services. Hospitals, schools and government buildings were all destroyed.

Sinclair Properties sponsored York based landlord Ian Mcbeth to participate in a 20 mile sponsored night hike through the streets of London on 18th Setember to raise money for Maggies Cancer Care Centres. These centres give support for those suffering from the effects of cancer.

Sinclair Properties sponsored and donated a 'meal for two' raffle prize to the University of York end of year Big D party. This years theme was 'WonDerland' and featured three venues: A Mad Hatters Tea Party, Laserquest, Silent Disco and Teacups. The event attracted 1,400 students and raised lots of money for York & Disrtict Mind, University of York RAG, Teenage Cancer Trust and the Ron Weir Memorial Fund.

For the third year running, Sinclair Properties supported a fund raising event held in Heslington on 4th July by Action Medical Research. Action Medical Research is a Registered Charity that helps fund research projects looking into ways of preventing and/or elleviatiing disability.

Sinclair Properties helped TV Gardener George Smith MBE raise funds to support unpaid Carers in York, by opening his superb gardens in Heslington to paying visitors for two evenings.

Sinclair Properties sponsored a successful 'Don't Get Spiked'
campaign organised by York St John University Students Union. The
campaign was aimed at highlighting to students the dangers of leaving
drinks unattended in bars and clubs in the city. All too often drinks
get spiked with drugs leaving students at risk of sexual assault or even
rape.
